Kiest Park, Paul Quinn, and deep roots
Why Southeast Oak Cliff?
Southeast Oak Cliff, also called South Oak Cliff, is the older, established heart of The Cliff, a center of Black culture, music, and commerce in Dallas since the 1950s and 60s. It is anchored by Kiest Park, the largest park in Oak Cliff, and by Paul Quinn College, one of the country's oldest HBCUs. Quiet residential streets, from mid-century brick homes to the courtyard neighborhoods of Singing Hills, sit beside one of the city's strongest community identities.
What you should know
- Kiest Park covers 263 acres with WPA-era stone gates and a 1930s pavilion, trails, tennis, softball, and the restored Memorial Garden.
- Paul Quinn College, chartered 1881, is among the country's first Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and its WE Over Me Farm turns the old football field into a working organic farm.
- The Ledbetter corridor is the neighborhood's commercial spine, lined with soul food, barbecue, and family-run restaurants.
